The Valley Bank & Trust was originally
organized in 1874 under the name of T. S. Steele and Son. It was
first located in an eighteen by twenty-four foot frame building on
the south side of Main Street. In 1879 the Steele's erected a brick
building that was used for nearly 70 years. In 1933 the Bank was
incorporated as The Steele State Bank and in 1968 they moved the
Bank to a new building at the current address of 200 S 2nd Street,
Cherokee, Iowa.
In 1985 the Bank was acquired by Tad Hammond and Herman Dinklage and
the name was changed to the Valley Bank & Trust. Mr. Tad Hammond and
Jeffrey Dinklage are now the principal stockholders.
